Teeth Whitening - Which is the Best Teeth Whitening Product?

by Ashley Hilton

Are you embarrassed with your stained, yellow and browning teeth? Luckily, there are a few choice teeth whitening products that will restore confidence in yourself so you can start showing off your stunning "A-List Hollywood" smile.

In the past, they weren't readily available to the general public and the only way you could benefit from them was to go to a dentist where they charge you an "arm and a leg" to get access to it. But not anymore.

Most use do-it-yourself" tooth whitening products to get rid of nasty stains caused by alcohol, food, or nicotine. They're usually easy to use and apply, and provides no side-effects for a fast whitening solution.

There are many ways to apply teeth whitening, and one of them is Over-The-Counter whitening gel - or "OTC" gel for short. Results usually start to happen around 1 - 3 weeks.

The other teeth whitening is "brush-on tooth whitening paste". Basically, you brush your teeth as you would any other time, but only this contains the tooth whitening formula. Results occur around 1 - 2 weeks.

And lastly, you have whitening strips. There easy to put on and take off, discreet, and treatment is generally quick around 1 - 2 weeks - but these can get expensive.

If your tired of dealing with not smiling in important family photos, being talked about behind your back, or dealing with teasing from friends about your "coffee and smoker" stains, a teeth whitening product unique for you and what your looking for could be your best solution yet to solve your embarrassing problem.

Teeth Whitening Ampules - Are They For You?

by Laurie Peterson

So like most of the population, you have good oral hygiene, you exercise, and you try to take care of your appearance, including your teeth. But, also like most of us, you have a few lifestyle habits - maybe it's tea, cola or Starbucks coffee - that make it hard to maintain the bright, white smile you crave.

The solution? There are multiple methods at various expense and complexity levels for obtaining a whiter smile. But what about portable whitening ampules? These are the tiny glass cylinders of clear whitening fluid. When you break the seal in the center of each single use ampule, the whitener flows to a tiny brush tip and you essentially brush your teeth with it. The instructions suggest you keep your lips, tongue and any food or fluid away from your teeth for five minutes (which is definitely harder than it seems!) and after twice daily use for a period of 10 days promise a whitening effect of up to 7-10 shades.

Portable whitening, over the counter availability, and extreme whitening within the space of 10 days. Is this solution as great as it seems?

In a word - no. But the idea - and the implementation - is a concept worth considering in greater detail.

There are several popular whitening ampules on the market today. The pluses: the tiny ampules are portable, self contained, and not messy or gritty to use. Sounds ideal, yes?

The cons? There are more than a few:

• Strength - over the counter ampules contain approximately 6% whitening gel-typically hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide-paired with other inert and flavoring ingredients. This is comparable to popular white strips-but professional strength whiteners you obtain from a dentist or medical spa contain whitening formula at strengths ranging from 10-33% For example, custom whitening kits can offer 22% carbamide peroxide whitening gel-and portable whitening pens contain 33% carbamide peroxide. Clearly, professional products carry more whitening power by orders of magnitude than over-the-counter or mail order whitening brands.

• Price - the popular options offer 28 "on the go" whitening ampules for 14 days of twice daily use, plus a Morning and Night toothpaste for $79.99 plus shipping and handling. In all, you're looking at a "cool hundred" for this portable solution. That's significantly less money than a dental treatment (typically $300-400)-but definitely not cheap.

• Convenience-Consider the realities of keeping your lips and tongue away from your gel-coated teeth for five minutes at a time, twice a day. It's harder than it seems! While the portable ampule-with-tip design is a dream come true, and the concept of stopping stains before they begin is a good one, the practicality of keeping gel coated teeth dry for an entire five minutes is hard to achieve. Consider this: a custom set of whitening trays - available for as little as $69 from

• Effectiveness. 7-10 shades of whitening in 10 days? Not a chance, testers say. In fact, any quick, portable solution is generally good for only 2 shades of additional whitening, at best. Two shades is significant - but for a lasting improvement of 7-9 shades of whitening requires either porcelain or composite veneers, which are permanent, or periodic treatment with whitening tray and professional strength carbamide or hydrogen peroxide whitening gel. (Carbamide is the more stable and preferred alternative of the two.)

The verdict? While ampule products do sell well, and developers should be applauded for developing ever more innovative methods for teeth whitening delivery, this is a method with a long way to go. Reviewers report whitening improvement of 1-2 shades at best. The whitening gel stung the gums of some reviewers, making them burn and turn temporarily white. Some reviewers like the convenience of ducking into the ladies' room with a tiny ampule and emerging with whiter teeth and fresh breath. But in pratical application, users report better results and more convenience from standard white strips or even no-name whitening gel and an electric toothbrush.

The cost for these products is "crazy expensive" for the common ingredients they contain.

In a nutshell, it's great to see the teeth whitening industry develop new innovations-but unless you're entirely taken with the unique form factor of whitening ampules, portable whitening pens portable whitening pens and custom teeth whitening trays with professional strength gel are the most practical way to go.

Whiten Teeth With Teeth Whitening Products

by Jesse Andrews

Whiten Teeth - The necessity?

Everyone eagerly looks forward to have that nice white and sparkling tooth; but almost everyone face that browning of the teeth. Looking at the brown teeth everyday while brushing and looking at oneself in the mirror does not give a very good feel. That's when one starts to yearn for those sparkling white teeth that were once there in them.

Teeth Whitening Products - The solution

When anyone thinks of the easy tooth whitening process, the thought that strikes them is to make a change in the toothpaste that is being used. Instantly the numerous advertisements on tooth whitening tooth pastes get reminded to the person. Most often the names of the products seen in the ad are forgotten by most. The list of some of the most commonly used whitening toothpastes are Colgate Total, Oral-B Rembrandt Whitening tooth paste, Aquafresh Extra Fresh Whitening, etc. Apart from tooth pastes, changing and using different tooth brushes and chewing gums are the other solutions. But this is only a temporary way of whitening it to just another level. With age, the enamel thickness decreases for most thereby giving way for the discoloration of the teeth. Though toothpastes are the least expensive, they could whiten only to an extent.

A more popular teeth whitening product are strips. When it is fitted in the cracks and the crevices of the teeth which would be very effective in bringing in that extra shade of whiteness to the teeth.Paint on teeth is another whitening product available which works wonders almost the same as strips. Further, there is also that tray based teeth whitening kits which is almost the same that the dentist would use.

The sparkling white teeth could be easily obtained without paying those huge sums of money to the dentist if you use only the best Teeth Whitening product which provides the best teeth whitening techniques

UV Teeth Whitening - Not As Safe As it Seems

by Laurie Peterson

What is UV teeth whitening? The teeth whitening industry is a $300M a year market that shows no signs of slowing down. As practitioners look for newer and more dramatic methods for whitening teeth, UV lasers have become increasingly prevalent on the professional whitening scene.

What is UV Teeth Whitening?

In summary, light-activated whitening of the teeth is usually a combination of hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide with lights or lasers of various wavelengths that are meant to speed up the whitening process.

According to Christopher Waniek, author of an article on UV whitening, the process can damage gums, lips and eyes-and studies have also indicated that the lights do not improve bleaching. UV light treatments expose the recipient to as much as four times the radiation that a person would receive in natural sunbathing, Waniek says, and with continued use, could cause cataracts.

While sunbathing in UV tanning beds is a common and widely accepted practice, the risks and dangers can be significant. Clearly, those risks exist for UV whitening as well.

Experts note that it can be particularly dangerous to obtain laser whitening from sources such like mall kiosks, since they are typically run by personnel who aren't qualified to assess oral health sufficiently to determine if UV whitening is safe or appropriate for you.

For tanning salons, the ability to offer UV teeth whitening for clients who are already comfortable with the risks of UV treatment is an attractive proposition. And there is no doubt that combining laser light with carbamide or hydrogen peroxide whitening is the method that produces the most dramatic and immediate appearance of whitening results. Laser whitening makes the tooth's surface extremely dry. Much of the immediate apparent improvement is lost as teeth return to their normal state of hydration in the ensuing 1-2 days. Furthermore, laser whitening makes the teeth more porous, allowing them to darken and stain more readily than before without regular maintenance treatments.

Is UV whitening for you?

In summary, with the risks of UV whitening-and the limited results-why would anybody engage on this practice? The limitations are clearly documented-however, the wish for a quick and dramatic whitening solution is so great that for some individuals, just as with UV tanning booths, the lure of UV whitening treatments will always remain. As with any aesthetic treatment, you should research your choices carefully, as this is the best means of protecting your safety and ensuring that the treatments you invest in will produce the safest and most effective results.

Do All Teeth Whitening Products Actually Work?

by Simon S James

Turning on the TV or opening your web browser; it seems that teeth whitening products are being advertised everywhere. The latest whitener is the best and greatest teeth whitening product to hit the streets is the normal boast. These products have got people in frenzy, but do they really work?

One of the most memorable features of your face is your smile and when you smile your teeth are on display for all to see. For this reason, most people take very good care of their teeth to maintain a white smile. Many people have gone to great lengths to get whiter teeth, and a costly visit to the dentist is a small price for some to look their best.

Over the years it is true that our teeth take an enormous amount of abuse. We can't help that we flood our teeth with lots of sugar, food and drink that cause staining as well as dental problems. For coffee or tea drinkers this only adds to the problem of stained teeth. Even though we abuse our teeth in this way, we still hope to have a brilliant white smile as we get older.

Teeth whitening products give us the belief that we can all have white teeth again, and it's this belief that make teeth whitening products such a big thing. Because these products are so reasonably priced, getting white teeth is within most people's budget.

Scam and abuse of any type of market is always a possibility and teeth whitening products are probably not immune from these people. There is always an option for a scam in a hot product that many people desire. The good news with most whitening products is that they do actually work as they mostly contain the same ingredients. Depending on which type of product you choose, will ultimately determine how good the results are though.

You have probably seen or used a number of tooth whitening toothpastes that are probably the cheapest solution for discolored teeth. These types of toothpaste have peroxide and other cleaning agents that will maintain the color of your teeth. These ingredients are not in normal toothpaste, but will do little or nothing to actually whiten your teeth.

You can get teeth whitening strips from your local chemist, health shop or even online for a reasonable price. With these strip you can apply them and wear them during the day or while you sleep. They are normally invisible to the naked eye and are much better at whitening your teeth than the most expensive teeth whitening toothpaste. Although they work, you do need to keep the treatment up for some time to get reasonable results.

Laser activated bleaching is probably one of the best teeth whitening treatments you could buy out of all the products on the market. The only two things that let this method down are the cost and the inconvenience, as you will need to see a dentist for the procedure. To have this treatment will cost a lot of money that most of us do not have, so home products are the only thing left. At home teeth whitening products do work though, it's just that some work better than others, and we all need to find a product that fits our own personal budget.

Can the Brits Learn From the Americans at Teeth Whitening?

by Jay Scot Edwards

You only have to see posts and forums on the internet and the USA is mad about the look and colour of their teeth and rightly so. In many parts of the USA like California or Florida they have great weather for vast periods of the year and this outdoor lifestyle means with tanned skin the desire for whiter teeth is higher than the colder regions where people spend more time inside.

Also the stars on TV in the USA have perfectly formed, looking and bright white teeth that seem to look almost too white but these images on our screen and in glossy magazines is what everyday people desire and want to achieve.

Now we are going to advocate spending hundreds of pounds or dollars on expensive cosmetic dentistry we are talking about using a whitening product regularly enough to incorporate in to our everyday lifestyle and look at amazing but cost effective ways of keeping our teeth healthy and looking whiter.

So what we are saying is that the teeth are porous and this means we need to keep working at keeping them white as our diets tend to stain our teeth, whether that is our favourite Starbucks coffee or our favourite Chablis red wine!

Many of the cheaper home kit products are worth starting with to try and see how the teeth start to whiten. These types of kits which includes trays, laser lamps, whitening strips and pastes can be effective at the more surface staining and help to remove these quite easily. The more deeper staining is more challenging as this would have accumulated over a longer period of time and therefore the lower strength home kits might struggle against these stains.

If you are struggling to remove these deeper stains then try a professional system like laser, power or zoom whitening system which is more powerful and will whiten the deep more effectively but will also cost more money. The big benefit of these systems is they will whiten the teeth with big changes in just over one hours session but like they say you pay for what you get and this is true when it comes to the teeth whitening business.

Another more expensive but effective option is the bleaching trays supplied by the dentists. These trays are made to fit the mouth and teeth so they are comfortable to sleep in them overnight which slowly and gently whitens the teeth over a 14 days treatment period.

Once the deep staining is removed using the professional system then a home kit to maintain the whiteness results is a good idea and this is what the American public has done so you get a cheaper more resilient solution going forward ensuring the results are maintained and long lasting.

Teeth whitening is here to stay so ensure regular trips to the dentist to keep the teeth healthy and good luck!

For the most part, they are of much higher quality than you will find in your stores and for a lot less money overall.
